“Mnemonics and Pneumatics” is a short monograph that responds to Rita McBride’s permanent site-specific installation, Bells & Whistles (2013), commissioned by The New School Art Collection Advisory Group. Bells & Whistles is a 530-foot-long bespoke brass sleeve that encases the egress-stair pressurization ducts in The New School’s University Center, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
